The Festival starts on Friday at 12 noon.
Saturday Parade starts 10am from Wendell Blvd to Main Street.
Bring your lawn chair. Parking is available right and left, next to the White Dove Wedding Chapel, 3025 Wendell Blvd, which is the starting point of the Parade. Parking is also available at Wendell Elementary School on Wendell Blvd.
Antique Car Show on Main Street immediately after the parade – Be the Judge …pick your favorite CAR! Live MUSIC Friday and Saturday Night!!!!

On Sept. 17th, Saint Eugene Catholic Church presents its 9th annual International Food and Music Festival at the J Ashley Wall Towne Square in Wendell. FREE admission lets you enjoy music, dancing, games and more. Sample foods from eighteen authentic cuisine booths (prices vary by booth). Entertainment 11am-7pm. Food Court 11am-6pm. Zumba is still going strong in Wendell. There were several new faces in last night’s class, and Maria Elena continues to keep each class fun, exciting and as challenging as you want to make it for yourself. Take it from me, someone who doesn’t really enjoy dancing basically because I have no rhythm and someone who has historically had very little interest in aerobic classes, Zumba is amazing! It is one of the best non-workout workouts I’ve ever tried. I feel great, and I’m seeing and feeling the results every single day. It’s definitely worth a try.

Come out next Thursday at 6:30pm. Maria will be out of town, but we’ll have Danny leading our moves, and from what I hear, Danny ranks right up there with Maria. Each class is only $5, and right now, you can get a punch card good for 7 classes and only $25… that’s two free classes!

Don’t miss Annual Community Day this Sat. (September 10) at Wendell Methodist Church

This annual event really is fun for the entire family. You’ll find all the excitement at Wendell Blvd. and Main streets starting bright and early at 7am. Here’s a rundown of events for the big day:
• Yard sale starts at 7am
• Classic Car Show in the Univeral Chevrolet parking lot from 9am until 2pm
• Church Bazaar with lots of vendors
” BBQ Chicken Plates for sale starting at 11am. $7 per plate.
• Homemade casseroles and bake sale
• Hot dogs
• Live entertainment
• Children’s activities including a tiger bouncy house, an amazing dunk tank, fantastic face painting and a cool snow cone machine…

and, a very special tribute in remembrance of 9/11. Please come out and show your support for our great community and our great nation as the victims, families and heroes of 9/11 are honored by Scout Troop 515. This year’s tribute has been expanded to include military service men and women as well as public service personnel. Colors will be presented promptly at 10:30am between the Wendell Methodist Church and Universal Chevrolet on Main Street. I encourage you to attend and be part of this tribute remembering the 9/11 terror attacks, those who perished, those who survived, those who saved lives and those who serve our communities and country. Come and stand with us as we remember.

Treat yourself to the Ritches of fitness… Ritch’s Personal Training in Wendell

Hopefully, you’ve noticed the nice, big window signage in the building located on the corner of Main and Fourth streets in downtown Wendell. It is kind of hard to miss, and as an artist, I personally think that’s a good thing [the sign is quite tasteful in an art deco kind of way]. That building was vacant far too long… and now the muscle-man adorning that nice big sign welcomes you to Ritch’s Personal Training. Josh and Courtney Ritch have moved in and are ready to help you meet your personal fitness goals. Gary and I spent some time with Josh and Courtney in their new digs late last month, and we talked about the new business. [You can catch an interview with the Ritches in the latest episode of the Wendell Weekend Show.] It’s no secret that Wendell is a pretty active community as far as physical fitness. Folks are always out walking, running or playing ball. Wendell Parks and Recreation has expanded program opportunities to include more group fitness opportunities like Zumba, Total Body Fitness and Boot Camp, and by the show of participation, people want those kinds of opportunities. Ritch’s Personal Training is definitely improving our local access. Ritch’s offers specialized and group fitness opportunities right here in downtown Wendell. At Ritch’s you can take advantage of personal training sessions, tumbling and flexibility training, and group fitness classes… and there are no enrollment or monthly fees. Group fitness classes include Rotation Training, Body Burn, Cardio Blast, and Zumba. And here’s a bit of great news… each class is only $5! Two things I must mention… Ritch’s is a training facility, which means you will not find rows of weight machines and cardio equipment but instead will find medicine balls, slam balls, stability balls, barbells, dumbbells, kettle bells, resistance bands, and trained professionals who can show you how to use them correctly and effectively. And, I have to mention the comfy and cush 2-inch foam floor which will definitely have your joints thanking you after that workout.

My blog posts have been less than sporadic in recent weeks, but I’m getting back on the horse as the summer comes to a close. My husband and I have been traveling with family and friends quite a bit in the last month or so. In fact, this weekend will be the first in almost a month that we aren’t beach-bound, and as crazy as it might sound, I am looking forward to spending a weekend in my own abode… and out at the annual Community Day festivities tomorrow. In addition to all the travels and trips, I am almost terrified to veer from my personal fitness schedule which has me in group fitness classes two days a week… if I know me, missing a class will have me missing another until I just can’t find that horse again, much less get back on it. I’ve worked too hard the last eight weeks to fall off my fitness wagon, so I am really working hard to exceed my own expectations by sticking with it. Now that travels are slowing down and I am getting better grips on balancing my fitness commitment with all the other vegetables on my plate, I have to get back to meeting expectations of this blog. So, I have several updates in the works… those updates will of course include some information on exciting and upcoming local events, the Wendell Weekend Show, food trucks, open space and recreation amenities, code enforcement and rental properties, bus service, annexation changes, economic development and much, much more.

Good news on the development front… a projected start date for the construction of Sheetz in Wendell is early September, and the target completion date is mid- to late January 2012. Definitely good news. Double the good news with this… the paving along Richardson Road has begun. Wheels are in motion.
