The community watch front has been quiet for several months. At tonight’s Community Watch meeting hosted by the Wendell Police Department, the only agenda item is a discussion about the future of the program. If your schedule permits, please attend to provide input, see what others have to say and get a feel for what lies ahead for community watch efforts in Wendell.

During the quarterly Community Watch meeting Tuesday evening, Walt Fuller and Angie Schulz from Raleigh-Wake County 911 were on hand to talk about 911 operations and to answer questions from the community. The presentation was interesting and questions asked by citizens at the first quarterly meeting were answered. On the down side, attendance was low. Few citizens attended. There may be some revamping to the Community Watch program in the coming months. To ensure citizens receive the excellent 911 information provided by 911 representatives, another presentation may be included during a Town Board meeting in the future.
The next quarterly Community Watch meeting will be August 9.

Around 2am on the morning of Tuesday, April 19, there was an attempted break-in at Mr. G’s Market at Third and Selma. The suspects were unable to actually enter the store but did manage to do some damage to the building. The store’s alarm activated, but the suspects fled before police arrived.

If you are part of a Community Watch group, actively patrol your Watch area and communicate with your neighbors and Watch group. If you are not involved in a Community Watch group, please contact a CW Director to find out if there is an existing group in your area or how you can start a Watch group with your neighbors. Will you Run for the Pig?

Well, walking is an option too… I know, still a hard sell. Ok, well what if I told you a 5K event called Run for the Pig will start and finish in the Wendell Park on Saturday, March 19 at 10 am, and proceeds will go towards funding technology needs at Wendell Elementary School. Are you in yet?
If you are in to competitive 5K racing… disposable bib-chip timing and real-time results will be available. You’ll have access to a touch-screen kiosk for checking your personal race results, and you can choose to receive a text message with your finish time. Awards will be presented to top males and females by age group.
If you are in to post-race fun… following the race, there will be a pig pickin’ (which will be free to registered participants), a festival atmosphere complete with live music and a local crafts bizarre. Post-run/walk has been coined as the Party with the Pig.
So, are you in yet? For fee and registration details, click here to download an information sheet. Click here to download a copy of the race route.
Don’t miss Public Safety Day this year! Calendar it now…

Our third annual Public Safety Day will take place Saturday, May 7 from 10am until 4pm. This is one of my favorite annual community events. It is lots of fun, kids have a great time and learn important lessons about public safety and making positive choices, and it is an awesome opportunity for the public to interact with our Police Department as well as our Fire and Rescue teams.
Public Safety Day coincides with the Umbrella Sale (annual sidewalk sale) and the opening of our Farmers’ Market. Downtown Wendell is bustling and busy! As the event nears, I will provide updated information regarding specific and scheduled happenings.
Last year, this event sparked positive beginnings for our community. Community Watch kicked off, and the Wendell Weekend Show was born. I can’t wait to see what Public Safety Day has in store for us this year!

Community Watch, General 9-1-1 FAQ, Community Watch, Wendell Police Department Leave a comment
Following Tuesday night’s Community Watch meeting, Wendell Police Department has added two additional pages to the web site. There is now an “About the Police Department” page which provides some basic information about the Police Department as well as a listing of each staff member and corresponding contact information. You will also find a “9-1-1 FAQ” page that answers some fairly common questions about our 9-1-1 service.
If you are in need of information about the Wendell Police Department, the web site is an excellent resource.
